ELGIN — An Apache woman was charged Monday in Comanche County District Court with drug trafficking following a traffic stop in Elgin.

Heather Dawn Chaney, 40, was searched by police who discovered more than 37 grams of methamphetamine. Chaney wrestled with two Comanche County Sheriff’s deputies after they noticed a bulge in her pants. A female deputy retrieved a plastic bag from inside Chaney’s pants, which contained the methamphetamine, according to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Elgin police officer Bill Bybee.

The traffic stop was initiated by Bybee at about 3 a.m. Saturday at U.S. 277 and C Street. Bybee wrote in the affidavit that he noticed Chaney was breathing heavy, her body was shaking and she would not make eye contact with him.

Chaney’s cell phone, which was seized by police, will be part of a forensic investigation that will uncover the phone’s contents and the defendant’s contacts.

Chaney was also arrested on a complaint of trying to obstruct an officer and an outstanding warrant out of Muskogee County related to possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Another passenger, identified as Gilbert Crow-Micheoby, was taken into custody on a Comanche County arrest warrant, according to the affidavit.

Chaney’s first court appearance is set for Nov. 4.
