I really don’t have anything against the Big 10 and their member schools. If you have been following along through the pandemic with me, I have kept up a running dialog on the mess that this conference has become. Just to recap, during the summer the Big 10 along with the Pac-12 decided to cancel their football seasons to hopefully play them at a later date. Less than five weeks later, after much debate they changed their mind and decided to have an eight game schedule for each team in their conference. They finally kicked off the season on the weekend of Oct.24 with a conference only schedule in mind. The Big 10 Conference has had a standing rule that you must have six wins to be able to play in the conference championship game. Well the problem became that Ohio State, who is currently ranked fourth in the nation and is inline to make the playoffs, was only able to play five games this year. So, the Big 10 steps in again and waves the six win requirement so Ohio State is eligible to play for the conference championship and stay in the running for a playoff spot. Why would a conference step in change the rules? Money, a conference receives $6 million for each team that is selected for the semifinal games. I guess they were right when in the movie, Jerry Mcquire, when they said “show me the money”. As always, stay safe and healthy.
