Just like that, with no warning at all, here it is. BOOM! It is playoff season.

Wasn't it just yesterday that I was sitting here at the computer writing about softball and volleyball being able to start their respective seasons on Aug. 15? Now the smaller classes have already had their District tournaments and the larger classes are just about a week away from their Regional tournaments. We are a week deep in District play for football and the Major League Baseball Playoffs start this week. How long has it been since there have been three teams that stand out and have a chance to win the World Series? The Dodgers, Yankees and the Astros all stand poised to capture the big trophy here in a few weeks.

It will not be much longer and we will be sitting around pouring over the standings, adding up District points to see who has or has not made it to the football playoffs this year. Talking about high school football, one thing that I learned in all the time that I coached is that coaches know the best places to eat. On my trip to Weatherford Friday night, we made a detour through El Reno and had an old fashioned onion burger from Johnnie's Grill. Of course, there is no shortage of places to get an old fashioned onion burger in El Reno. A couple more favorite stops of mine during road trips are Jake's Rib in Chickasha and Eischen's in Okarche.

My travels do not take me to the east very often, but I hear if you get around Davis you have to stop and eat at Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch. Now I'm not going to tell off on anyone, but part of the contingent that traveled to Weatherford on Friday stopped and ate at Lucille's Roadhouse Diner. Anybody up for a road trip?
